Who we are

The South End Day Care was established in 1968. The Centre was incorporated as a non-profit, charitable organization and licensed through the Department of Social Services in 1975. South End Day Care Centre Inc. adheres to a holistic approach to early childhood education. When we expose children to different environments and various learning experiences, we allow them to explore their self-awareness and gain a sense of the world around them. Once they leave our Early Childhood Education Center, they are fully prepared for the next stage of their young lives.

Philosophy

Quality Child Care

The South End Day Care Centre believes in the dignity and the uniqueness of each child. The aim of the centre is for each child to be treated equally regardless of abilities. We offer a rich learning environment so children can thrive on developing their social, intellectual, emotional, and physical growth. We encourage independence, self-confidence and consideration for others. We also believe that well-balanced meals and snacks play an important role in the growth and development of our children.

Goals

Over time, we’ve designed and adapted programs to meet the high standards of the New Brunswick Curriculum Framework for Early Learning and Child Care. This framework is the foundation for an emergent and engaging curriculum for children, one that will encourage optimum development in an atmosphere of trust, security, and respect. We focus on the four goals for early learning and care:

Well-Being - Children experience safe and caring environments where their emotional and physical health, positive identities, and sense of belonging are nurtured and protected.

Play and Playfulness - Children experience open and flexible environments where playful exploration, problem solving and creativity are encouraged and purposefully planned.

Communication and Literacy - Children experience intellectually, socially and culturally engaging environments where their communicative practices, languages, literacies, and identities are valued and supported.

Diversity and Social Responsibility - Children experience socially inclusive and culturally sensitive environments in which consideration for others, inclusive, equitable, democratic and sustainable practices are enacted and social responsibility is nurtured. By providing a supportive environment, we make sure each child receives exactly what they need. See below for more detail.

Valuing Relationships

Relationships are key to our well-being whether we are children or adults. Through relationships, we make meaning of our world, our families, our communities, and ourselves. As educators, we enter into relationships with children and their families that are reciprocal with energy and communication flowing back and forth.
